The message, not the messenger?
The problem for Paul and Barnabas in today’s first reading is that the crowds in Lycaonia became fixated on them personally and on what they said and did, rather than on why they were able to perform miracles. We place a lot of emphasis sometimes on who is saying something, rather than necessarily on what the message is. If we like them, we listen; if we don’t like them, we pay little or no attention to what is being said.
