Knowing more than we think
In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks great words of encouragement to his disciples – even if, as Thomas indicates, they really don’t know exactly what he’s talking about. Jesus’ response to Thomas’ question is to point out that in fact the disciples “know” more than they realise because of their relationship with him. By saying this, Jesus is telling his friends that the key thing in following him is not knowledge but personal connection – so even if we don’t understand everything to do with our faith (and we don’t) our hearts need not be troubled.
