Acts 9:31-42; Psalm 116B; John 6:60-69

Athanasius was a great defender of the true teachings of the Church, especially against Arianism, which taught that the Son was created by the Father and was in no way equal to him. At the same time, Athanasius knew that faith requires more than knowledge – it also needs a personal commitment to Jesus. If we try to live our faith only in our intellect, we may reach the point of saying “this is intolerable language”. If we also take our faith into our hearts then we will see – as Simon Peter and the disciples did – that there is no one else to turn to who can give us eternal life.
