Raising up

The Roman soldiers raised Jesus up on the cross to publicly torture and humiliate him. But the raising up of Jesus is a showing of something far more earth-changing. In his public suffering and death Jesus is bringing healing and life. What was meant to be a victory over Jesus and all he stood for has become a victory of Jesus over death and the sin which has brought death into the world. The cross now means new life and hope and victory as much as any spring blossom.
