A stronghold

Life is a mixture of good and bad times – sometimes we are filled with joy and at other times we are overwhelmed by fear. Earthquakes, volcanoes, fires raging out of control, communities succumbing to illness are enough to distress us and make us wonder what will happen next. The psalmist reminds us that God is our helper who is close at hand, especially in times of our distress. May we remember to draw near to our stronghold when life events threaten to destabilise us. Create a clean heart in me, O God; give back to me the joy of your salvation.
