Hosea 5:15-6:6; Psalm 51; Luke 18:9-14

Love is what matters

Hosea reminds us that what God wants of us is love – a steadfast love that does not blow hot and cold. We cannot do this on our own. Lent is a time to turn again and trust in the healing mercy of God. God’s love is as certain as the dawn and as refreshing as the spring rains that water the earth. Only when we are humble can we acknowledge our failings and open ourselves to the mercy and forgiveness of God who is love. What I want is steadfast love, not sacrifice; knowledge of God, not slaughter or destruction, says the Lord.
