A forgiving father

When we read this well-known parable from Luke, we run the risk of reading it with dull minds. We focus on the sons – the runaway son who squandered his inheritance and returned to seek his father’s forgiveness and the dutiful son who, quite rightly, we may think, complained about the fuss the father was making over his brother’s return. When we focus on the father of the two sons, we are quickened by the father’s loving forgiveness and mercy and are reminded of the times God has showered merciful forgiveness on us. It is he who heals every one of our ills and crowns us with love and compassion.
