Pleasing fast!

It is good and necessary to be reminded about the type of fasting most pleasing to the Lord: “…to break unjust fetters and undo the thongs of the yoke…to share your bread with the hungry and shelter the homeless poor” (1st Reading).

This Lenten season is precisely the time to make this kind of ‘fasting’ my own. There are practical ways to do this, e.g. the Caritas Appeal, but creating my own programme may have a more lasting effect, especially if it changes my lifestyle beyond Lent.
