Saint Agatha, Virgin, Martyr (M)

2 Samuel 24:2, 9-17; Psalm 32:1-2, 5-7; Mark 6:1-6

Strength!

Little is known of this third century martyr, but her name has been carried in Eucharistic Prayer I (Roman Canon) ever since, indicating her example and influence in the early Church. You and I stand on the shoulders of countless women and men who have given their lives that the gospel – the good news of God’s love for all creation – might take root in human hearts.

Pray today’s psalm response: Lord, forgive the wrong I have done. Then add: Renew and strengthen my faith, that I might renew and strengthen the faith of my sisters and brothers.
