St Francis de Sales (M)

1 Samuel 24:3-21; Psalm 57:2-4, 6, 11; Mark 3:13-19

Summoned and appointed

Jesus choses twelve of his disciples as companions and gives them a particular mission. What a great mix of personalities God uses to build up the reign of God! Jesus gives a new name to Peter, and a nickname to Zebedee’s sons. I need to be with Jesus before being sent out. Today’s saint, Francis de Sales, felt the call of Jesus at an early age but to please his father he studied law. Later, he did become a priest who encouraged all people to be holy, whatever their role in life.
