Light at home

On hearing of John’s death under Herod, Jesus returned to his home province of Galilee. Was it for security? Or to pick up where John left off? “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” Galilee had a mixed population: Gentiles and Jews, half pagan in cult, and bilingual. Jesus offers a light for these people through his teaching and healing. Many of us spend these summer days away from home. May we be blessed by God to begin this New Year, knowing God gives us power to be light for others.
