Dangerous wealth

Today Jesus and Amos give us good advice about money. Jesus calls it “that tainted thing” and Amos condemns those who “trample on the poor and practice deceit”. Though seeming to praise the dishonest manager Jesus is really saying that we can be very clever in justifying a selfish use of our wealth! It is so easy to justify the excessive accumulation of funds while millions in our world do not have even the essentials of life. Let us pray with the psalmist that God will give courage and compassion to those of us who have what we need, and maybe more than we need, to lift at least some of these millions from the dust.
