Apocalypse 11:19, 12:1-6, 10; Psalm 45; 1 Corinthians 15:20-26; Luke 1:39-56

Mary’s reality, our destiny

The Ark of the Covenant was where the glory and presence of God dwelt. It held the 10 Commandments, manna -- bread -- and Aaron’s staff, symbol of priestly authority. Luke has Elizabeth reveal Mary as the new Ark. The Assumption draws on the Biblical imagination of Mary bearing Christ, the fullness of God, and the sense that salvation is ultimately the transfiguration of our entire self with, in and through Christ. Her reality is our destiny; to live in the new heaven and new earth with God, body and soul. In Mary, Jesus offers us the certain hope expressed in the reading from Corinthians. Share with God and Mary your fears and dreams about eternity.
