Going out of oneself

St Edith Stein was a distinguished Jewish philosopher and convert. She continued her writing after joining the Carmelites but died in Auschwitz in 1942. She said, the deeper one is drawn into God, the more one must ‘go out of oneself’; that is, one must go to the world in order to carry the divine life into it. Today’s readings reveal God’s glory and the Son of Man returning to reward each person’s behaviour. How do I honour God through behaviour that ‘goes out of myself’ each day?
