God establishes the city forever

Our readings today paint a bleak picture. The prophet Isaiah reflects on the struggles to unite the lands which we know today as the Holy Land. In Matthew's gospel we read of Jesus lamenting that the people of the cities which he had so often blessed by his presence and where he had performed so many miracles would not listen to his preaching. As we hear of the ongoing struggles between the Jewish and Palestinian people to own and occupy this same territory, let us join our prayer to all those who yearn for a peaceful and just settlement.
