Finding rock

As children, we enjoyed making sandcastles and we understood from experience, the house-on-the-rock parable. Anything built on sand could be blown or washed away. The message was stuck in our heads like an advertising jingle: build on the rock, build on the rock! Now I know that the wise man in the parable had acquired his wisdom from building houses on the sand. That’s how God teaches us – not through commandments but through experience. We’ve all had our share of sand houses, which is why we so value the rock.
