ST MATTHIAS, apostle

Acts 1:15-17,20-26; Psalm 113; John 15:9-17

I chose you

Jesus reminds disciples that it was he who chose them, not they who chose him. The reading from Acts shows how the Holy Spirit guided the apostles in their choice of who was to replace Judas as one of the twelve. Replacements and additional workers are always needed in the church – congregations grow, faithful servants move to a new area or eventually go to their eternal reward. Am I open to being ‘chosen’ by God to take on a new role, perhaps something I have not done before? Remember that when God calls he also equips so we can “go out and bear fruit, fruit that will last”.
