Wisdom 2:1,12-22; Psalm 34:16, 18, 19-21, 23; John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30
It was he who sent me
As Lent deepens, the struggle between good (virtue) and evil (sin) comes into the open. In the reading from Wisdom, evil forces lie in wait to strike down those who live virtuously. Jesus – who embodies the wisdom and goodness of God himself – is opposed by those who are spiritually blind. The Temple crowd is confused. Then Jesus cries out: “You do not know [God], but I know him because I have come from him and it was he who sent me.”
Lord Jesus, Wisdom of God, hold me, and never let me be separated from you.
