1 Peter 5:1-4; Psalm 23; Matthew 16:13-19

Love is the rock

Peter is the rock on which Christ will build his Church. What does it mean to shepherd Christ’s flock? To shepherd means to watch over the flock not simply out of duty, but gladly; not for sordid money, but because one is eager to do it; not as a dictator, but as an example for the whole flock to follow.

It was a role Peter took a lifetime to learn. What kept him true to the task was his love of the Lord. Love of Christ is the sole rock on which to build God’s Church.
