A world groaning for redemption

Prayerful fasting cleanses the eye so the disciple sees the Bridegroom coming in the poor who cannot freely fast, for they have little already. Prayerful fasting witnesses to an incomplete world, loved but broken. In prayerful fasting the disciple joins with the Bridegroom and prays on behalf of the broken: “I thirst” (John 19:28).
