Matthew 7:6, 12-14

Lord have mercy

The Assyrians besiege Jerusalem. King Hezekiah of Judah prays to God to save Judah. God hears his humble and desperate prayer. The prophet Isaiah tells the king the city will be spared and the Assyrians will be defeated. God listens to a humble and contrite heart. Jesus tells his disciples to guard their hearts against evil, strife and hatred of every kind. He encourages his disciples to enter by the narrow gate of God’s wisdom, and learn to take the road of humility and conversion.
