The penitent heart

The penitent heart is open not only to God’s mercy but also to God’s love. King David realised this, and the woman in the gospel experienced it. But Simon the Pharisee was too caught up in his own conventional understanding of sin to recognise a penitent heart. Each of us is justified by our faith in Christ. If we have been justified in Christ, we live in our bodies the life of Christ. We must learn to judge with the eyes of Christ and not simply by convention or from what we have learnt by rote.
