Solemnity of the Sacred Heart

Ezekiel 34:11-16; Ps. 23; Romans 5:5-11; Luke 15:3-7

Heart that is sacred

The shepherd ensures his flock is watered and fed. He ensures the flock stays together. He keeps them in view. But the Lord is no ordinary shepherd. He will leave the ninety-nine to go after one that is lost. He will search far and wide till he has found the one sinner so that none may be lost who belongs to his flock. This, as Paul says, is the proof of God’s love: that he would die for us while we were still sinners in order to have us reconciled to him. It is love that makes the heart sacred.
