God’s Universal Love

The Book of Jonah is about the universality of God’s love. The Jews, as God’s chosen people, resisted the notion that God’s spirit could move the hearts of a gentile race – the Ninevites. Vatican II acknowledged and recognised that the Holy Spirit is present in other religious traditions and cultures. In engaging with the World, the Church now looks for where the Spirit is present in those other traditions and cultures.
