Listening to God’s prophets

False prophets speak for themselves and their own ideas about God and Christian life. In times of great change they abound and attract a groupie type following. The true prophet is a rare individual who dares to speak for God and is unpopular amongst almost all believers. How do I discern the difference? I need to do this because prophets are important to my spiritual maturity. The prophet who reveals to me that I have strayed from God’s favour is the prophet to heed.
