Listening for God’s voice

“Why doesn’t God ever speak to me?” we might ask. In George Bernard Shaw’s play “St Joan” the Dauphin asks Joan the same question, after she had told him about hearing voices from God. “I am the King, not you!” he complained. “They do come to you,” Joan replied, “but you don’t hear them. When the Angelus rings, you cross yourself and have done with it; but if you prayed from your heart and listened to the trilling of the bells in the air after they have stopped ringing, you would hear the voices as well as I do.” God’s voice comes to those who listen for it.
