Haggai 1:15-2:9, Psalm 43, Luke 9:18-22

The beauty of this passage is that Jesus, for the first time, issues a personal challenge, and that, also for the first time, His identity is revealed. No long discourses, wordy disputes, surveys or polls. Jesus knows the time is right. When Christians feel personally challenged by God, they can be sure that Something Significant will happen. Revelation needs to be safeguarded – thus the hearers are sworn to secrecy. There is a calling and timing from God. We need to be able to discern both of them.
