From Taxman to Apostle

Matthew did not calculate the cost of discipleship. He simply rose and followed Jesus. Wow. Writing among Jews and for Jews, he links every teaching and act of Jesus to Old Testament precedents. His is a rich Gospel, full of teaching, and reaching out to potential Christians. The primacy of apostles, evangelists and teachers, so crucial in the spread of the early Church, is echoed later in Ephesians.

Lord, teach me to share my gifts wisely and effectively like Matthew.
