The spirit and the letter of the law.

The conflict Jesus experiences with the scribes and Pharisees is a conflict between the spirit and the letter of the law. Jesus could discern what was going on. He could look into the hearts of His accusers and know their real motives. When we feel this same conflict we have to look into our own hearts, examine our motives and ask the Holy Spirit to guide our actions.
