Saving face

Herod went to extremes to save face but we can also overstress the opinion of others at cost to them and ourselves. It challenged me to ask myself: do I save face by joining in or remaining silent when unkind comments are made? Am I the model parent/spouse in public but different in private? Do I speak up for justice? Do I embellish or make excuses to look good? God shines mercy on our frailty. When we let God’s face shine upon us, we get to see ourselves sinful, trying to save face, yet loved and treasured beyond measure.
