Election or selection

There was dissention in the early Christian community, so a committee was elected to deal with it. Their mission was pastoral and practical, not spiritual. In our parishes we have committees to deal with practicalities, and pastoral matters. Jesus called his disciples, selected them. They were not elected. Yet Judas’ replacement was elected, as were these seven men. Were the electors discerning God’s call to the elected? Lord, help me to discern your call.
