Sheep without a shepherd

Even Jesus needed time to be alone and to rest, and he knew his disciples needed it too. How they must have looked forward to that quiet space, and how the disciples must have resented the intrusion of all the needy people who followed them. Maybe Jesus himself groaned inwardly, but, as always, he put his own desires to one side and responded to those needs. That total self-giving is what we are called to as Christians. I know I am not capable of it and fail often. Let’s pray today for the strength we need to keep on, even when we think we cannot.
