The Holy Innocents, Martyrs

1 John 1:5-2:2, Ps 124, Matthew 2:13-18

Holy Innocents

Herod ‘the Great’ was an outstanding engineer and builder. But he was not popular with the Jews because the Romans had made him king and he was not a believer in the Jewish faith. Hence he was most insecure and fearful of any threat to his throne. This led him to great brutality against even those very close to him. So it was logical that he should be jealous of a child called “the infant king of the Jews” and try to kill him. Surely I can’t forget to pray now for today’s ‘Holy Innocents’, the unborn in danger of abortion.
