Sunday 16 December

Third Sunday of Advent.

Zephaniah 3:14-18, Ps Isaiah 12, 2-6, Philippians 4:4-7, Luke 3:10-18

Sing and shout for joy

This Sunday our Advent theme of expectation takes on the colour of joy. In today’s readings Zephaniah, Paul and John the Baptist all share one belief – that the Lord is very near. Therefore rejoice! We call it Gaudete Sunday – a day to rejoice. Our reasons for rejoicing are that our Saviour is coming to free us from sin, to show us the love of God and bestow God’s gifts upon us. Therefore there is no need to worry. This is a reminder for me to reflect on the happiness of this season of Advent and then thank God.
