THIRTY THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Psalm 16, Daniel 12:1-3, Hebrews 10:11-14, 18, Mark 13:24-32

On guard

This teaching, rich in Old Testament allusions, warns the disciples to be vigilant, to observe the signs above and below, and leave end-time dates to the Father alone. Can you picture Jesus teaching you these things too? Fig trees symbolize approaching happiness, so Jesus balances the heavy warnings with this promise of the coming kingdom, a comparison not lost on the disciples, nor on those who harvest fruit.

Lord, keep us always awake and vigilant, as we serve you.
