Philemon 7-20, Ps. 146, Luke 17:20-25

Gentleness and love

This short letter to Philemon, is about returning Philemon’s slave - Onesimus. Onesimus, a recent convert, had run away from his master and may have stolen something as well. In this difficult situation Paul expresses gentleness and love for both his ‘children’. As far as Roman society was concerned, Onesimus was still a slave but now the master and slave are blood brothers in Christ. In our society we have to live with some laws that are opposed to Christian teaching. Pray that we will have gentleness and love when we find ourselves in difficult situations
