Loving our neighbour

The gospel reading today gives practical advice as to how to meet the high standards demanded by the law of love. This law requires us to treat every person with love. No one has a monopoly on God’s love and no one is excluded from his love. Social occasions can be an opportunity for advancement, lobbying and discrimination. The next time we are at a social gathering ask the Lord to search our hearts and eradicate any motives not worthy of his love.
