Opposition and persecution

We can’t expect being Christian to make us popular. Jesus certainly wasn’t. He made many enemies and they eventually had him killed. Like Jesus, we must expect opposition, persecution and ridicule. Our western world, in particular, is becoming increasingly hostile to Christian teaching and values. Being Christian is not easy in today’s society, but it wasn’t meant to be (“Take up your cross daily and follow me”). But always remember that we are not alone in the struggle. We have each other (our Christian community) and, most of all, we have the Lord (“I am with you always”).
