Need, not greed

In the film “Letters to Father Jacob” the housekeeper of an elderly, blind and impoverished parish priest asks him, with incredulity, why he had loaned his entire life savings to a stranger who had written to him seeking only his prayers. “Because she needed the money, I didn’t.”, was his response. A simple, but profound, illustration of Jesus’ teaching in today’s Gospel. In acquiring and using our money and possessions “Need, not greed” is the principle we must live by.
