St. Ignatius of Loyola

Jeremiah 14:17-22, Ps.79, Matthew 13:36-43

The trials of Sainthood!

How many saints are misunderstood by the Church, in their day? Ignatius was actually imprisoned eight times by the Inquisition, on suspicion of heresy. Despite this he remained a totally loyal servant of the Church. Ignatius had an amazingly ‘modern’ and open mind and he and his followers have had immense influence on the Church through the centuries.

To see the need for change and development and work towards it, while remaining accepting and loyal is not a recipe for popularity. It is a hard and lonely road which many saints have walked. Can we join them, or at least pray for them?
