Beware growing mouldy

Peter, (and many other Marist missionaries to the Pacific), came from isolated little pockets of rural France very limited in their contact with the wider world. In spite of this they had a great sense of mission to foreign lands at a time when the Church in France was in dire need of renewal after the ravages of the Revolution. Perhaps the words of Jean-Marie Chavoin (Foundress of the Marist Sisters’) to Peter just before he left captured their spirit. “Too many grow mouldy in the midst of comfort, doing nothing for God’s glory.”
