Beware assumptions

In our first reading, uneducated laymen astonish their religious leaders – those assumed to be their ‘betters.’ When I assume anything, I effectively make an “ass” out of “u” and “me.” I pause and honestly acknowledge the people against whom I have made such assumptions, especially in church life and practice.
