St Anthony, Abbot

1 Samuel 16:1-13; Ps 89, Mark 2:23-28

Saint Anthony’s obedience to Jesus’s teaching ‘leave what you own and follow me’ led him further and further away from society and closer and closer to God. He is sometimes called the ‘Father of monasticism’ as his example encouraged others to join with him to lead lives dedicated to God through prayer. Perhaps I can use St Anthony’s example, and find myself a quite place away from the noise and bustle of everyday life so I too can get closer to God. Even in the midst of my work and seeing to the needs of those around me, and regardless of how demanding my day is Lord, help me find a place to pray in the quiet of my heart.
