Star of Jacob

Mary, mother of the star.
Star of Jacob
Star of Jerusalem
Star for all people.
Rise in your brilliance,
carrying your staff;
defender of those who gaze upward,
who fix their eyes upon Yahweh
putting their trust in his love.
Mary, let your star shine in my heart.

The prophet looked forward to the astounding
event that was taking place in Mary’s womb.
Who is it she bears?
We, too, must ask
the question, “By what authority?”
May we be open to recognise its origin.
The readings echo the joy of the Magnificat.
To be joyful at all times takes courage
