Daniel 7: 15-27, Daniel 3:82-87, Luke 21: 34-36

Seeking spiritual guidance

In today’s first reading, Daniel seeks guidance from one of the heavenly host about how to interpret the complex, terrifying vision of beasts and horns in yesterday’s first reading. He does so despite the fact that earlier in the book of Daniel, Daniel is presented as the wise one who gains great honour through interpreting puzzling and alarming experiences for others. Daniel models for us the importance of seeking the wisdom of another – whether it be a priest, a counselor, a spiritual director or a wise Christian friend or relative – when life becomes too complex for our individual discernment.
