The Source of True Peace
The name ‘Jerusalem’ was popularly interpreted as meaning ‘city of peace’. The disciples have just been crying out ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heavens’, as they celebrate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, when Jesus begins to weep over the city. He laments the failure of her rulers and people to understand the true message of peace. He foresees the trouble in store for Jerusalem that followed from the strategy of seeking peace through violence and insurrection. This was to culminate in the Romans’ destruction of the city in 70AD. Where do I look for peace?
