Commemoration of the Faithful Departed

Isaiah 25: 6-9, Ps. 27, Romans 5: 5-11,
Matthew 11: 25-30

All the nations

The prophet pictures here a great royal festival banquet on Mount Zion, where all the nations celebrate in the presence of God. This early reference to the resurrection foretells a time when God will ‘destroy Death for ever’. God’s comfort will take away all sorrow and suffering. God’s bounty will wipe out all needs. Today, and this month, each of us remembers and prays for particular people precious to us in past years. Isaiah reminds us, however, that the future God promises is a matter of salvation not just for individuals, but for all peoples journeying to and with God.
