Ordained 40 Years: 1971 – 2011

We found a pearl of great price.  In Ashburton, Christchurch, Wellington, and Hastings we heard the call to Marist priestly ministry. We left family, home, friends, and the possibility of our own family to follow Jesus, the pearl of wisdom, truth and love. We gave all to follow Christ in the Spirit of Mary but got so much back in return.

We give thanks for family, formators, and significant others who gave us a firm foundation. We acknowledge those who shared the Marist story, prayed and encouraged us at the beginning of our journey

We have ministered in New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Tokelau, Pakistan, Philippines, South Dakota, Detroit, and Antarctica. Living in Marist Communities for mission we have gone from place to place involved in education, parishes, pastoral areas, formation, retreats, chaplaincy, leadership administration, and ministry to young people and Maori

We have reflected deeply after forty years of Marist priestly life. We are grateful for benefactors who have cared for us out of their material and spiritual means. We recognise the daily blessings of God and the maternal prayers of Mary our Mother for her sons.

We do not know the road ahead. However, we feel encouraged and inspired by the renewed call to continue to be available in New Zealand and overseas as members of the international mission of the Society of Mary

Pray for us, that the Holy Spirit may visit us with His many gifts. Pray with us, that by faith we may know the power of Christ and by love make Him present in the world in the years ahead...

  1. I went to St Mary's College in Wellington with Pat's cousin, Margaret, and met him a couple of times though her. What a lovely guy he was then! As a teenager, I thought he was a great loss (to women - ha! ha!) when he entered the seminary, but his life has obviously been filled with purpose and fulfilment. Congratulations on this great anniversary.
