St Monica

1 Thessalonians 4:9-11, Ps.98, Matthew 14-30

Making the most of our talents

St Monica was born in North Africa in 332AD. She is best known as the mother of St Augustine of Hippo. She had four children altogether. Monica was a mother who saw potential in her son. She prayed continually and in earnest for Augustine who in his younger days lived a life that was somewhat removed from the kind of life that he could be living. Her prayers were answered when Augustine mended his ways and lived in the service of God. We could say that he began to use the talents that were his gifts at birth. St Augustine’s feast day is tomorrow
