The Ascension
of the Lord

Acts 1:1-11, Ps.47, Eph.1:17-23, Matt.28:16-20

Reluctant Witnesses

The disciples must have been shattered, indeed we know they were; their Lord had risen from the dead and returned to them, but now he was going away again leaving them afraid and uncomprehending. Jesus left them with a clear commission but they didn’t have the ability to carry it out. It is the same for us, we too are commissioned but we cannot do it in our own strength. The disciples needed the Holy Spirit and so do we. Let us pray, not only today but each day till Pentecost, for a fresh infilling of the Spirit to enable us to bring Jesus anew into our world.
